Adrian Feliz-Platt had four touchdowns and over 170 yards rushing on just six carries in the first half of what would be Seneca Valley’s last game of the 2014 season. A game in which the Screaming Eagles would put up more than 50 points for the second straight week, would see two seniors end their careers with unexpected touchdowns. The 53-0 rout of Blake only serves to punctuate the empty feeling of Seneca Valley fans and players, as the 8-2 Screaming Eagles will miss the playoffs for the second straight year. For Seneca Valley to have made the playoffs, they needed Urbana High School to lose to Linganore, along with help from other schools. While 10-0 Linganore did beat Urbana, giving them an 8-2 record, Seneca Valley also needed a number of other teams to notch victories. Among the teams that need to win, was Rockville. Poolesville’s 27-24 victory over Rockville ended Seneca Valley’s hopes for a playoff berth.
However, in the Nest on Friday night, the Screaming Eagles took care of business and blasted Blake. Feliz-Platt got things going with a 83-yard touchdown early in the game, he would find the end zone twice more before the end of the first quarter, once on a seven-yard run, and again from 45-yards out. A five-yard Zach Robinson to Dwayne Kelley pass would be sandwiched between Feliz-Platt’s last two runs of the first quarter, which would end with Seneca Valley holding a commanding 26-0 lead over 2-8 Division 4A North opponent Blake Bengals.
After halftime, the second part of Seneca Valley’s one-two sophomore running punch, Darius Golston would power into the end zone from 14-yards out to extend the lead to 39-0. It was Senior Night as the Screaming Eagles played their last home game, and it was fitting that the last two touchdowns be scored by seniors. In the third quarter, senior defensive back Andrew Gibbs stepped in front of a pass, but was unable to get a handle on it, but he did managed to tip the ball right into the hands of fellow senior Brendan Ashby who grabbed the ball and ran 50 yards to the end zone to further extend the lead 46-0. Later in the quarter, senior Mujahid Robinson would take a handoff and run 39-yards to end his Seneca Valley career with a trip to pay dirt and extend the lead to 53-0. The ironically Seneca Valley Head Coach Fred Kim was not at the game Friday night, he was given permission to attend his son’s senior night at Urbana High School by Seneca Valley Principal Marc Cohen and Athletic Director Jesse Irvin.
