Damascus Wins over Quince Orchard Varsity Football

Last Friday night’s game between 3A Damascus Hornets and 4A Quince Orchard Cougars was a good opportunity for both teams to measure their strengths and hone in on their weaknesses early in the season. Damascus was dominant, scoring early and keeping Quince Orchard’s running game from posing much of a threat. Things looked grim for Quince Orchard until their tenacity began to pay off in the final quarter and, after a touchdown by QO fullback Eisley Kim and a two point conversion, the Cougars were mounting a forceful comeback with a few minutes left on the clock and a score of 19 Damascus to 11 QO. The last hope of tying up the game was lost when QO quarterback Carson Knight’s pass was intercepted by Damascus defender Anthony Jordan.

Damascus celebrated briefly their hard-won victory away from home, and Quince Orchard was understandably bitterly disappointed. But, win or lose, these teams can both improve much faster now that they’ve met early on. And they will not have to face each other in the post season, since they are in different divisions. Both Damascus and QO programs are known for their successes along with the exceptionally high standards they set for themselves. This season, as usual, high school football fans in Montgomery County should be interested to see how far they will go.

Final Score: 19 Damascus, 11 Quince Orchard

Scores for Damascus: Jake Funk – 2 TD, Jalen Christian – 1TD, Joseph Curry – 1 extra point
Scores for Quince Orchard: Troy Porter – 1 field goal, Eisley Kim – 1 TD, Greg Williams – 2 point conversion pass from Carson Knight
