Friday night marked Quince Orchard’s first home game with new head coach John Kelley, and the Cougars achieved a comfortable 45-14 victory over the Whitman Vikings. Turnovers were costly for the Viking. But one of the game’s most impressive plays occurred with only five minutes left on a running clock when Whitman quarterback Evan Smith made an astounding 63 yard touchdown pass to tight end Anton Casey.
Coach Kelley was pleased with the overall outcome, though he isn’t about to let his guard down any time soon, remarking,”It’s a good win at home. But there are many things we can do better. I have to spend a lot of time going over film…”
Taking their cues from Coach Kelley, at the final huddle of the game, the entire Quince Orchard varsity football team was beginning to mentally prepare for next Friday night when they will host the Damascus Hornets. Damascus at Quince Orchard could turn out to be one of the most exciting match-ups of the season. Whitman plays at B-CC next.
