Trojans Baseball advances with win over Wootton

The Gaithersburg Trojans Varsity Baseball power their way past Wootton 7-3 and advance to Regional Championship. The Trojans jumped out front on Wootton early on its way to a 7-3 win on Wednesday at Kelley Park in seven innings, scoring four runs in the first inning.

Zack DeCarlo racked up three RBI’s on a 400 foot homer to left center in the first inning. Nick Pantos got the win for Gaithersburg Trojans. He allowed one run over four innings. He struck out six, walked one and surrendered four hits. One run in the top of the fourth helped Wootton close its deficit to 4-1. An RBI single by David Perroots gave Wootton life. Gaithersburg Trojans stopped the rally after Nick Pantos got Max Levine to strike out.

It didn’t take long for Gaithersburg Trojans to respond as it scored two runs of its own in the fourth. Gaithersburg Trojans scored on an RBI double by Nick DeCarlo and a steal of home by Nick DeCarlo. After pushing across one run in the top of the fifth, Wootton faced just a 6-2 deficit. A sacrifice fly by Noah Kimball triggered Wootton’s comeback. But, Anthony Felitti got Matt Ainsworth to strike out to end the inning.

Gaithersburg Trojans survived Wootton’s surge and put up one run of its own in the fifth on a RBI single by Dakota Durant. After pushing across one run in the top of the seventh, Wootton faced just a 7-3 deficit. An error sparked Wootton’s rally. Anthony ended the game by getting Kyle Sagger to strike out.
