Gaithersburg wins over Churchill

Nick DeCarlo makes 2 runs hold up for Gaithersburg Trojans in 2-1 win over Churchill

The Gaithersburg Trojans didn’t provide Nick DeCarlo with much support in the runs department, but he didn’t need much. DeCarlo pitched seven strong innings to carry the Trojans to a 2-1 win over Churchill in seven innings on Wednesday at Kelley Park.

Trey Martinez helped Gaithersburg take the lead for good in the sixth inning. Evan Colon walked to get on base in the sixth. He then went to second on a stolen base. Martinez put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for Gaithersburg. Brian Bagheri was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just one inning, walked two, struck out one, and allowed one run. The first inning saw Churchill score its only run on the day on an RBI single by Brandon Hubbard.

Gaithersburg Trojans quickly matched Churchill’s strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the first. Gaithersburg Trojans scored on an RBI double by Martinez. Nick is 5-0 on the season with .053 ERA.
