The Gaithersburg Trojans outlasted The Avalon School on Wednesday after four lead changes, squeaking out a 7-3 win at Kelley Park. The Trojans pulled out the win thanks to a strong third inning, scoring on a two-run single by Peter Galvin off Tommy Sanchez, plating Evan Colon and Nick Pantos. Jake Thomas paced Gaithersburg Trojans at the plate and went 2-3 and scored one run, singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth inning.
Nick Pantos was in control on the hill. Nick Pantos held Avalon hit-less over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five. Jake Thomas got the win for the Trojans, allowing three runs over four innings striking out four, walked none and gave up five hits.
Tommy couldn’t get it done on the bump for Avalon, taking a loss. He lasted just three innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed four runs. The top of the first saw Avalon take an early lead, 2-0. The Avalon attack began with a single from Billy Lenox. A single by Mark Searles then moved Billy from first to third. The scoreboard lit up again for Avalon when Searles scored on an RBI single by Pearce Howard. It didn’t take long for Gaithersburg Trojans to answer as it scored two runs of its own in the first. Gaithersburg Trojans scored on an RBI double by Nick Pantos and an RBI single by Dakota Durant.
