SHERWOOD HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL

We spoke with Coach Gilchrist, getting the teams 2013-2014 forecast.

Returning Players, We found that they have 6 players from last year’s Varsity team, Our current roster consists of 14 players, 8 Juniors and 6 Seniors

Key Players to look for this season, I can’t just name one, we need contributions from many to be successful, Ellis Dozier 6’8” Forward, Tyler Reeves 6’2” Guard, Xavier McCants 6’0” Guard, Drew Davis 6’3” Guard, Mike Crooks 5’8” Guard. This is our preseason starting 5, the boys are working hard every day in practice and there is a lot of competition for playing time.  The lineup is always in flux and will change depending on game plan and matchups

How the team look so far, The team has had a really tough and intense week of practice.  They are very focused on the task at hand and are learning each other’s strengths and weaknesses and working to improve daily.

Predicting where the team will be at the end of the season Can’t Speculate on what our record is.  Not really worried about our record.  We are focused on getting better game by game and hope to be reaching our peak performance at the beginning of playoffs.

Who will be their toughest competitor, The league we play in is very competitive, we’ll be tested in our division/region.  On any given night the game is up for grabs

As for games that would be on a Don’t Miss games, First game of the season 12/6/13, we host Magruder at Sherwood high School.  The gym will be electric when we host our cross town rival

SHERWOOD HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL

We spoke with Coach Campbell, getting the teams 2013-2014 forecast.

Returning Players, We found that they have 9 returning players

Key Players to look for this season, we have some important returning players and some new players, who are working hard with their third coach in three years.

How the team look so far, please with how the team looks so far.  We are working hard learning a new system, new terminology and the personalities of a new coaching staff.  Right now we are focused on the effort, energy, and skill level needed to be a good team.  I’m pleased with how the team really wants to learn and improve.

Predicting where the team will be at the end of the season, I don’t know that there are many coaches who would ever want to guess what their record will be at the end of the year.  I have always been about the “process” as a coach.  We are going to get better as a team, focus on competing and improving every day in practice and in games.  The record will take care of itself from there.

Who will be their toughest competitor, We expect everyone in the county to compete on every night.  We are not focused on one opponent but will take things one game at a time and give equal amount of preparation to  every opponent.

As for games that would be on a Don’t Miss games, I couldn’t tell you right now.  Give me until after the new year and I can assess that better.
