On a cold night at Wootton High that marked the end of the 2013 regular season, Quince Orchard was back to playing with strength and conviction. The Cougars scored 40 unanswered points by halftime, and the 2nd half flew by in a scoreless blur.
Sam Ellis, the Wootton Patriot’s quarterback was probably anticipating a challenge with QO, but defender Lamonte Armstrong, who menaced him on every snap, and countless other Cougars made his job nearly impossible. Just a week ago, on November 1st, Ellis set the Maryland state record for single-game passing yards, with help from teammates, especially wide receiver Trevon Diggs. This type of highlight should infuse the Patriots with great hope as they look forward to next season and leave this one behind.
The Quince Orchard Cougars go back to work on the practice field and should host the Clarksburg Coyotes for the first round playoff game on Friday, November 15th.
Final Score: 40-0, Quince Orchard
Scores for QO: Shawn Barlow – 1TD, Greg Williams – 1TD, Elliot Davis – 2 TD, Mike Murtaugh – 1 TD, Malcolm Brown – 1 TD, Troy Porter – 4 Extra Points
