Quince Orchard HS Pulls Out A Tough One Against Damascus HS

DSC03131-2781849873-O DSC02971-2781797614-OThe Damascus Swarmin’ Hornets hosted the Quince Orchard Cougars in a highly anticipated match-up on Friday night, September 20th. It turned out to be a classic battle that showcased the defensive strengths of both teams, as they alternately stifled offensive plays until the clock ran out.
Damascus quarterback Chase Williams made a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Soon after, two key plays occurred that contrived to secure ultimate victory for Quince Orchard. QO lineman Connor Tilton blocked the extra point for Damascus, limiting their score to 6. And in the very next possession, QO wide receiver Elliot Davis caught a 28-yard pass from quarterback Mike Murtaugh with one hand (which was not even his favored hand). Quince Orchard’s offense drove on during their sudden surge of momentum, culminating in a 7-yard touchdown run by Kevin Joppy and an extra point by kicker Troy Porter. The score at the end of the 1st quarter was 7-6, Quince Orchard, and that would be the final score of the game. With under a minute to play, Damascus was left with one last chance to score a field goal from 44 yards. As soon as it was missed, Quince Orchard could celebrate the 100th win for Cougar teams coached by Dave Mencarini. Though one team had to lose on that night, the future looks very bright for both 4A Quince Orchard and 3A Damascus.
