Gaithersburg Advance in Double OT over Wootton Girls

20120502-JVNLR-0046 20120502-JVNLR-0015In this heated, 2013 MPSSAA 4A West Region playoff matchup more than just pride
was on the line here with important seniors departing from both the Lady Trojans
of Gaithersburg and the Lady Patriots of Wotton. With the Lady Patriots coming
into this game as the underdog they also came into this game without a home court
advantage, but their following gave them the atmosphere like they had something to lean on.

Gaithersburg had a phenomenal game crashing the defensive glass play after play. showing no remorse she dominated the paint. The Lady Patriots answered throughout the game with points from beyond the arc. The offensive execution from the Lady Trojans was too uptempo for the Patriots to stop or even keep up with in the 2nd
quarter. But the Trojans failed to put up points in the paint, forcing
themselves to draw a foul risking the possibility if a charge call. The lead
changes in the beginning of the first half were almost impossible to keep up
with. Finally, the Lady Trojans opened up in the late second quarter getting on
top if the Lady patriots by 11 points.

That was the largest lead of the entire regulation game. The Lady Patriots latter then, got it together rebounding well, success with their full-court press defense and cut the Trojan lead to 5. The Patriots were able to get to the line and cut the Trojan lead to a tie. The Patriots were on top of their game in the 3rd quarter scoring 20 points ending
the quarter the Lady Patriots were on to  42-37. The refs played a big part
in tonight’s 4A road to states matchup. Nothing short of a game was it for them. There was a bit of a miscommunication going on between the refs late in the game. Nor did
the Lady Trojans or Lady Patriots have anything going their way, fans heads were
going through the roof. With an intense hard-fought 4th quarter from both teams.
With the Lady Patriots were so close to closing it out, leaving the Trojans fans
biting their nails on the edge of their seats. they fell short not answering to
the accidental Trojan foul. With both the Lady Trojans and the Lady Patriots
scoring a combined 34 points in the end of regulation. We go into Overtime!

Lady Trojan Junior Center Janessa Fountroy had an extraordinary 27 points and
20 rebounds.  The Lady Patriots of Wotton were getting it done getting to the
free throw line but they just couldn’t seem to answer shooting 24-41 from the
line tonight.  Both teams scored a low 6 points in the 1st OT. In the second OT the Lady
Patriots scored 6 points again. But the Lady Trojans had something else up their
sleeve scoring a total of 14 points in the second OT! Senior center Sarah
Wallerstedt played her hard-fought heart out tonight in her last Wotton basketball game leading the team in scoring with 17 points. The Lady Patriots fall short to the Lady Trojans 76-68.
