Quince Orchard vs Magruder HS 11/2/2012

11/2/2012 Final Score Quince Orchard HS 62 Magruder HS 0

Story by Lisa Levinbach

The last regular season game of 2012 was Senior Night at Quince Orchard High. Loved ones and coaches gathered with their seniors at mid-field in the brief moments before sunset. Soon after kick-off, many QO seniors joined up with QO juniors to score multiple touchdowns while keeping the visiting Magruder Colonels from scoring any points for themselves. The Cougars looked toward play-offs.
On the opposite, much quieter sideline, assembled in the frigid night air, the Magruder team was mainly composed of seniors. Their first game was their only win of a season that was suddenly rushing by in a blur, like the QO running backs, receivers, and quarterback Matt Choi himself. The clock began running early on. The score swelled to 62-0, Cougars.
In the final seconds, a whistle was blown, both teams began to line up at mid-field. But the refs persisted because Magruder quarterback, senior Alex Rimkus, had called a timeout. He wanted to make one last play. Both sides were engaged for the Colonels’ final attempt, that was swiftly stopped by some Cougars. Magruder’s offense turned back to their team, looking palpably relieved that this hard game was over, but the gesture of stopping time, then plotting together to move the ball downfield, knowing so many of them may never get the chance to put on their uniforms and try another play again, shows how hard it is to leave this game behind.
