Friday night lights were once again powered up at Watkins Mill High school as the Wolverines hosted rival Damascus Hornets for their home opener. Bragging rights were at stake as two former Wolverines, now Hornets, returned to the Mill for the first time to face their former teammates on Wolverine turf.
The intensity on both sides was evident resulting in at least 5 unsportsmanlike conduct calls against the hornets. The first half was probably the hardest fought high school football I’ve seen in a while with the Hornets offense making several big plays and the Wolverine defense holding them off to a halftime score of 7-0 Damascus.
The second half showed a visibly tired Wolverine defense falling short while the Hornets offense marched down the field. Hornets scored an additional 28 unanswered points resulting in a 35-0 Damascus victory.
Final Score Damascus HS 35 Watkins Mill HS 0
