With the opening round of the 3A West Playoffs, the Hometown Watkins Mill Wolverines hosted the Titans of Albert Einstein HS. Early off in the first quarter junior guard #15 Tyvon Grant of Watkins Mill, playing in his first playoff game ever, gets off to a hot start with two quick long-range three pointers. #10 Abraham Camara of the Titans keeps his team around by scoring at the hoop. Throughout the first period, the game was tight but the Wolverines had momentum on their side with the home crowd and their astonishing playing.
Entering the second senior forward #1 Le’Nard Wilson of Watkins Mill, puts his team on his back finishing almost everything at the basket while on the other side #32 sophomore of the Titans kept his team in the game and eventually allowing his team to take the lead over the Wolverines going into halftime.
Coming out for the second half both teams still looked fresh and ready to take on each other, senior forward #23 Torez Rhea and senior forward #2 Jeffrey Adarkwa of Watkins Mill, grabbed a total of 14 rebounds early and the Wolverines capitalized off of them scoring in transition and getting to the free throw line off and early.
Entering the fourth the show a team effort as they start to show that they are too much for the Titans to handle, and ride their momentum all throughout the rest of the game as they win their first round playoff game.
Congrats to the Wolverines.
Watkins Mill Coach Jay Tringone ”i glad we won, now we go to the next round of the playoffs, we will have to play a little better to keep advancing each round, we did everything we had to do to win, and that’s the only thing that matter in the playoffs”
Albert Einstein Coach Rich Porac “we play as hard as we can, we had a little help from #32 he can up from playing JV, Watkins Mill just came out with more fire than us and that was the game changer.”
